It's that time again. Check your mail for the invitations and other information about this year's Alumni Dinner. I'm attaching photos in case you didn't get yours or, heaven forbid, tossed it out with the junk mail.

Dinner Invitations Are Out; June 26 Is The Date

LVCS Alumni should be getting their 2021 Dinner invitations in the mail any day now, if they haven’t already.

If you haven’t gotten yours yet, here are images with all the important details:

Your LVCS alumni committee spent a few hrs today spiffing up the room before Open House on Sunday, April 25 from 1 - 4 p.m.

And .....

IT'S CONFIRMED!

LVCS Alumni Dinner will be held Saturday, June 26 at the Corporate Bldg on the fairgrounds. Social time 1:00, followed by BBQ dinner at 3:00. Dinner choices are 1/4 chicken or pulled pork sandwich, sides and dessert.

Classes of '70 and '71 will be honored.

Invitations will be mailed by May 10. There will be a very short turn around time so please check your mailbox. We cannot accept any late reservations due to covid paperwork.

We will adhere to NYS covid guidelines. Currently, proof of vaccination OR proof of negative covid test within 72 hrs of event is required.

Here's Hoping We See Each Other Next Year

Happy New Year to all. As Nell Fellows ('76) has posted in the Little Valley Alumni group on Facebook, there's hope for a Dinner next year -- on June 26. Keep the date open on your calendars. 

And if you're on Facebook, do check out that Alumni group. Blogs have fallen out of fashion since this one was launched, and the Facebook page has become the more reliable source of information. The posts include some sad news (including the recent deaths of Sally Elaine Gardner, Gordon Ackley, Jerry Titus and Dennis Miles) as well as some fun or just plain interesting things (there's a Cattaraugus Ave. in Los Angeles).

There's also a Little Valley Central School group on Facebook, which is less active.

Alumni Dinner Postponed Due To COVID-19

This year's Alumni Dinner won't be held until at least August or September. As Nell Fellows ('76) explains on the Little Valley Central School Facebook page, COVID-19 is the reason. She adds that the Alumni Association will be sending postcards to members soon to explain what's happening.

Here's a thought: What about some type of "virtual" gathering on June 27? I'm sure Nell and President Kevin Andrew would love to hear ideas.

Dinner Set For June 29, Invitations Are Out

This year's Alumni Dinner will be on June 29.

Location: The Corporate Building on the Fairgrounds.

Time: Social "hour" at 4 p.m.; dinner at 6 p.m.

Cost: $18 for dinner; $5 for annual dues.

Choices:

- Swiss steak
- Chicken cordon bleu
- Pasta alfredo

Passings: John & Ann Christopher

A couple fondly remembered by those who attended LVCS in the '70s and '80s died within weeks of each other.

He's a friend to us all, so it's good to see LVCS Alumni President Kevin Andrew getting some attention in the local media.

County Continues To Shift Departments To Former LVCS Building

If I had been the editor, I would have made one change to the first sentence:

LITTLE VALLEY — The recent move of three Cattaraugus County departments into space at the former elementary central school in the village brings to five the number of departments leasing space there.

2017 Dinner Invitations Are Out

This year's Alumni Dinner is set for June 24. If you haven't received your invitation, there's a jpg of it and other information at the very helpful Little Valley Central School page on Facebook.

Once again, the dinner will be at the Fairgrounds in the Corporate Building. The "social hour" starts at 4 p.m. The dinner gets going at 6 p.m.

If you're around on Friday the 23rd, there's a blood drive at LVCS, in the gym, from noon to 5 p.m. You can learn more and schedule an appointment at www.redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.

Jeff Newhouse To Be 2016 Dinner Speaker

Class of '66 alum Jeff Newhouse will be the featured speaker at this year's Alumni Dinner, association President Kevin Andrew reports.

Jeff's bio will be familiar to many: husband of Judy (Wood); son of "Coach" and Jeanne; brother of Terry and Greg; retired Air Force Lt. Col. who was the navigator on flights to about 100 countries -- including a trip with President Nixon to the Soviet Union in 1973.

Some of us also recall his brief stint as a math teacher teacher at LVCS. Jeff says we members of the Class of '76 were in 8th grade when he taught us.

The dinner is set for June 25, at the Fair Grounds. See you there.

Alumni Room To Be Open On Nov. 1, From 1 To 4 P.M.; Date Set For 2016 Alumni Dinner

This is no trick.

There will certainly be some treats the day after Halloween if you enjoy looking back at "the good old days":

The Alumni Room in the school building will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1.

If you like to plan much further ahead, there's word from Alumni President Kevin Andrew that "Next year's banquet will be on Saturday, June 25." Once again, we'll be at the Corporate Building on the Fair Grounds.

2015 Alumni Dinner: Neither Rain Nor Dark Dampen The Good Spirits

Rain fell hard in Little Valley on Saturday and just as about 190 LVCS Alumni members were about to sit down to eat the power went out.

But dark skies and a dark Corporate Building (for more than an hour before the power came back) didn't matter. The 116th dinner and reunion went on as scheduled and the highlights included:

-- Jerri Parkhurst Harris' keynote address and singing. As she said, "you can take Jerri out of Little Valley, but you can't take Little Valley out of Jerri."

-- Barry Reiman's remarks on behalf of the Class of '65. He captured a sense of the times with the story of undermanned Little Valley's victory over a much larger Portville football team.

-- The food! The Little Valley Fire Department Auxiliary won high praise for the dinners (beef, chicken or vegetable lasagna) and the cupcakes. The auxiliary is already on tap for next year's dinner.

-- The shift into the 21st Century. This blog has been up and running since 2007. But President Kevin Andrew told everyone about the association's entry into the world of social media: The Little Valley Alumni group on Facebook. It's well worth finding and joining as it will likely be updated frequently. By the way, also look for the Little Valley Central group on Facebook.

-- A request from the Association board. They're hoping that talented members will donate gifts to be given away at next year's dinner. They're looking at all you quilters, carvers, photographers, knitters and others. If you've got something you might want to put into the prize basket, contact Karen Holtz Taft, Kevin Andrew, Linda Bryant Milks, Sherry Nichols Charlesworth, Susan Ellis Koch, Nell Fellows or Nancy Paschen Shinners.

New CLVCS Superintendent Lives In East Otto

From the Olean Times Herald:

CATTARAUGUS — The Cattaraugus-Little Valley School Board of Education Wednesday unanimously named the district’s next superintendent and it didn’t have to look far to find her.

Dr. Sharon Huff, an East Otto resident currently serving as superintendent of Pioneer Central Schools, was appointed to the post.

Just search for "Little Valley Central School" on Facebook. It's a closed group, so you'll have to be approved. But that should not be a problem.
